Mary Beck currently serves as the principal at Nicholas Senn High School, a neighborhood high school in Chicago. She strives to connect the diverse population into a community of college-bound learners through a focus on International Baccalaureate philosophy and Fine Arts. She is committed to distributive leadership and providing access to rigorous, college credit bearing coursework for all students so that they are prepared for whatever they choose in their postsecondary endeavors.
Mary began her career as an English teacher and department chair, where she was recognized for developing AP courses not historically offered. She supported the establishment and expansion of the AVID program throughout CPS. After deciding to return to a school, Mary spent six years as an assistant principal – first at North Lawndale College Prep HS and then Von Steuben High School.
Mary is dedicated to CPS and honored to join the EAC in order to further build a network of support for principal development and retention.
