Mellodie L. Brown has been a Chicago Public Schools (CPS) educator for 18 years as a teacher, mentor teacher, Central Office staff member and principal. As a member of New Leaders for New Schools Chicago, she served as a Mentor Principal.
Mellodie is a seasoned professional with 16 years of experience in elementary education. She possesses effective communication and strong interpersonal skills which allows her to effectively work with a diverse group of people. Mellodie is a product of CPS and firmly believes that every child deserves a high quality education. She believes that all children can learn and achieve at high academic levels. Given her commitment, experience, education and determination, she is an effective leader in an urban school.
Prior to joining New Leaders, Mellodie served as a Master/Mentor Teacher. Mellodie currently uses the same effective practices from that experience with her staff to support and guide them through research-based instructional practices, engaging in Professional Learning Communities and facilitating theory in action during professional development. Data- driven instruction and ongoing professional development led to significant academic increases.
Mellodie works closely with parents and community members. She engaged in partnerships with various nonprofits to develop a 21st century school where ”Failure is Not Option” and “ Every Child is College Bound”! As a lifelong learner, Mellodie is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Education.
