Steven Rouse is currently the principal of Carver Military Academy, located on the Far South Side of Chicago. Carver Military Academy, a Level 1 school, is one of six military academies in the City.
Before becoming an educator, Steven served 22 years in the United States Army and retired as a field grade officer – Major. During his successful career in the military, Steven completed a plethora of schools and earned the following awards/decorations: Airborne, Air Assault, Jumpmaster, Rappel master, Expert Infantryman’s badge and Ranger tab. As an Infantry squad leader with the 82nd Airborne Division during Desert Storm, he earned the Combat Infantry Badge and meritorious service award for his actions.
Steven started his teaching career at Hyde Park Career Academy. After one year at Hyde Park, The Military Area Officer (Network Chief) selected him as Commandant/Assistant Principal at Carver Military Academy. As an administrator, Steven has been recognized for improving ACT scores, graduation rates, attendance and increasing course offerings. His message to students at Carver is simple: the work they are doing is important; they can do it; and Carver won’t give up on them, even if you give up on themselves.
Steven values collaboration and transparency. Through the Educator Advisory Committee, he looks forward to working with dedicated administrators seeking ways to improve student achievement for all CPS students. As a product of CPS, Steven knows that education is the great equalizer and can open a myriad of doors.
