Why Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)?
The Fund believes that solutions to the challenges of public education exist. We are leveraging the Discover Series PLCs to provide the space, time and resources for our city’s top principals to share their best practices.
In The Fund’s annual principal engagement survey, principals frequently asked for opportunities for more peer learning. Principals in our city have developed some of the most innovative tools and leadership techniques, and we believe PLCs will provide a rich, peer-learning opportunity for our city’s top leaders.
How Do the Discover Series PLCs work?
Principal leaders selected a topic area in which they wanted to work, and will develop the curriculum, structure and impact measurement of each Discover Series PLC.
The Fund will support seven Discover Series PLCs during SY 2016-17 for up to 42 principals. Each Discover Series PLC will consist of a leader and up to five participants.
Following an orientation, each PLC leader will facilitate at least four in-person session with his or her group, in addition to at least two one-on-one meetings with each member. Between sessions, PLC participants will work on implementing changes in their specific topic areas to help improve student outcomes and implement new systems in their schools.
Check back this fall when we announce the PLC leaders!
