Building on prior investments in a new teacher evaluation system for Chicago, The Fund contracted with the University of Chicago to further develop the District’s assessment and accountability function.  This work, conducted over the course of four months, ultimately framed the teacher evaluation system launched in 2012-2013 (REACH Students), and contributed to the development of the School Quality Rating Policy (SQRP) which took effect in the 2014-2015 school year.  This overhaul included the development of an approach to consistently measure growth in student outcomes at the teacher, principal and school levels.

Impact

  • Current teacher evaluation (REACH) and principal evaluation apply to all teachers and principals in district schools. Both evaluation frameworks include student growth and rigorous observation of practice as major components in the overall rating.  Further detail on REACH is available on the CPS website.
