The External Principal Recruitment initiative allowed Chicago Public Schools (CPS) to formalize its upper-level talent-management strategy and address immediate recruitment needs for experienced, high-quality school leaders. To support this initiative, The Fund contracted a consultant who identified and recruited these leaders and framed the strategy for upper-level leadership recruitment and internal talent identification, cultivation and evaluation.

Impact

  • CPS approached more than 300 experienced external candidates.
  • Within that pool, more than 40 became eligible through the CPS principal eligibility process, and 15 were ultimately hired as principals in district schools.
