Christine Munns is entering her 18th year as the principal of Sauganash Elementary School (Sauganash) and her 26th year as an educator with Chicago Public Schools. Under her leadership, student enrollment has doubled from 279 to 604 students, the school underwent an exciting new capital expansion in 2011 and achieved Level 1+ status, with a perfect score, on the district’s School Quality Rating Policy (SQRP) during the 2015-16 school year.
In the upcoming year, Christine hopes to continue driving vertical alignment of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) curriculum from kindergarten through eighth grade, to increase business and community partnerships and to work with the district to create additional space at the school for students to learn.
Christine began her career in education as an elementary teacher, before earning her Type 75 (master’s degree in educational leadership) at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She served as the curriculum coordinator at Healy School and made her formal transition to school leadership through the LAUNCH principal preparation program, a partnership with the Chicago Principals and Administrators Association, Northwestern School of Education and Kellogg School of Management. She served as the assistant principal at Sauganash for one year, before transitioning into her current role as principal.
Christine is looking forward to learning from her colleagues, and engaging in problem-solving and collaboration through the Fellowship experience.
