John Smart


BMO Harris Bank

John is a Managing Director at BMO Harris Bank in Chicago and responsible for building the Education and Business Services Corporate Banking practice.  John has over 25 years of Corporate and Investment Banking experience with the Bank of Montreal.  During this time, John completed transactions valued in excess of $15 billion.  Prior to his current position, John was with BMO Capital Markets.  In this capacity, John was focused on originating, advising on and executing transactions in Capital Markets and Mergers and Acquisitions for Financial Sponsors predominately invested in Education, Software/Technology and Digital Media/Internet Services.

John is on the Board and Executive Committee of the Golden Apple Foundation, Member of the Financial Advisory Counsel of the Association of Private Sector Colleges and Universities, and past Chairman of St. Gregory Episcopal School.

John received an MBA in Finance from Loyola University Chicago and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Kansas.  John resides in Winnetka, Ill., with his wife and three sons.
