As Data and Policy fellow, Jarvis combines his desire to increase impact while focusing on equitable policy outcomes for The Fund. Jarvis is a native Michigander born, raised, and educated in Detroit. As both an educator and lawyer, Jarvis has a lifelong passion for advocacy and community change. Having begun his career as a classroom teacher in Houston, TX Jarvis pursued his dream to become an attorney where he practices in the area of civil litigation. In 2016, he returned to his education roots in Houston Texas teaching at the college level, serving the district’s alternative schools, and training nationally for the American Federation of Teachers (AFT); he has trained over 1,000 teachers, administrators, and other district personnel since.
Jarvis holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Michigan, and a Juris Doctor from Western Michigan Thomas M. Cooley. He does work for various community organization and non-profits dedicated to criminal justice reform and educational equity. In his free time, you can catch him boarding a plane, spending time with great people, volunteering, or enjoying dope cultural spaces.
