Additional Learning Opportunities

The schools added 90 minutes of educational time to the school day using educational software and a modified after-school staffing model. Fund staff worked closely with CPS officials to select schools, train program coordinators at each site and provide program management. The positive results of this pilot program helped inform options for all CPS schools as the District moved to a Full School Day beginning in 2012-2013.
Impact
  • 6,000 students in 15 schools received 1,100 additional minutes of reading/math instruction each month.
  • 80 percent of schools outperformed similar schools in math; 53 percent in reading, when compared with similar schools and compared with their own growth in the previous year (2009-2010).
