Chicago Public Schools National Board Certification Program

The Fund established the CPS National Board Certification (NBC) Program to support large numbers of CPS teachers interested in pursuing NBC. This comprehensive program recruited and introduced pre-candidates to the standards of NBC; supported candidates throughout the application process; and prepared teachers who achieved NBC to mentor aspiring candidates. The Fund worked with the program to develop its unique component: a focus on developing cohorts of teachers who undertake the certification effort together.

Impact

• More than 2,000 teachers have earned NBC through the program.
• The program serves as a model for others throughout the state and nation, with many adopting elements of the pre-candidate, candidate and advanced-candidate strategy.
