Debbie Kobak is responsible for overseeing MB Financial Bank’s philanthropic activities, including grant-making and employee volunteerism. In this capacity she managed the launch of MB’s signature charitable Initiative, MB on the Block: Education, which is helping more Chicago young people secure living wage employment following the completion of high school, technical skills training, or college.
With more than a decade of experience in banking, Debbie’s expertise is in providing investment, treasury management and credit products for charitable foundations and nonprofit service organizations that deliver financial and social return. Prior to her career in banking, Debbie worked in the nonprofit sector for various public policy research and advocacy organizations in Washington, DC and Chicago, including the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, the World Resources Institute, the National Governors Association, and the Chicago Council on Global Affairs.
Debbie has a BA from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in Political Science (honors) and French, and an MA in International Development from the American University in Washington, DC. Debbie is currently Treasurer of RefugeeOne and a member of the Leadership Council of the Chicago Public Education Fund. Debbie is an enthusiastic community volunteer, having served on a variety of nonprofit boards over the course of her career. She lives in Chicago with her husband and two daughters, both of whom are CPS students
