Our Next Phase
Contrary to popular narrative, Chicago’s students are making impressive academic gains.
According to researchers at Stanford University, Chicago students are showing consistent growth and improving faster than their peers in other major cities. For example, students in Baltimore and Chicago enter third grade academically behind. By eighth grade, students in Chicago largely catch up; in Baltimore, students lose even more ground.
Research and experience tell us that the formula for sustaining and accelerating these gains in Chicago must include investment in the principals leading transformational change.
In fall 2017, The Fund will launch fundraising efforts to support our next phase of work; a $25 million effort to build the systems required to make principal quality an enduring aspect of Chicago’s school improvement strategy, while unlocking the potential for innovative leadership citywide.
